One of the first things a cancer patient must do is immediately address their diet. We have put together a list of 12 foods which have been proven to each play a role in fighting numerous steps in the cancer process.

Nutrition is a key factor in fighting any illness and cancer. When trying to increase personal odds of survival and treatment success good nourishment is essential. Is is important to remember that natural compounds are far more effective than any synthetic ones. So try adding the following 12 into your cancer diet.

1.  Broccoli

Broccoli and other green cruciferous vegetables such as Brussel sprouts and cabbage contain rich amounts of fibre which can help destroy toxins. Fibre is also rich in galactose which binds to damaging agents in the intestine. Cruciferous vegetables also have something known as indoles along with metabolite DIM, which can modifies and diminish oestrogen action and can help with fighting oestrogen-driven cancers such as prostate, breast, brain and colorectal cancers.

One of the most important elements found in Broccoli is sulphorophane. Found in strongest form in young sprouting broccoli seeds. Broccoli sprouts can help detoxify the liver and reduce stomach and cancer tumours.

2. Beetroot

These purple colours vegetables contain anthocyanis which have been shown to kill cancer cells. They have also been known to contain resveratrol which research has shown to help fight certain cancers like blood and brain cancer

3. Tomatoes

Tomatoes have been shown to have a positive effect on prostate cancer. According to Harvard research around 7-10 per week can cut prostate symptoms by around 40% and has an influence on many cancers for example; colon, Lung, cervix, breast.

4. Mushrooms

Over the years a large amount of research has shown how ‘medicinal’ mushrooms (shiitake, maiitake, cordyceps etc) can not only boost the immune system but fight cancer. Even conventional button mushrooms have cancer fighting ingredients.

5.Carrots

For the past 100 years Carrot (juicing) has been one of the key components of many people’s anti – cancer diet and program. In some cases it has saved peoples live by aiding the body getting rid of tumours and booting the immune system. Now more recently thanks for modern science, researchers have found another link between carrots and cancer prevention.

6.Blueberries

Blueberries are full of antioxidants and flavonoids which can help prevent cell damage. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals (atoms that contain an odd number of electrons and are highly unstable). These free radicals can cause the type of cell damage that can be a contributor in the onset of cancer.

7.Red & Yellow Peppers

These peppers are a high source of vitamin, even more so than oranges. The power of vitamin C in undeniable, it can strengthen your immune cells and neutralise toxins.

8.Oily Fish

Omega-3 is a powerful anti-inflammatory in the body that can minimize COX-2 and its power to drive localized negative hormones called eicosanoids that can inflame and irritate, Oily Fish are not only full of omega-3 but they have high amounts of vitamin A, another important vitamin linked with the fight against cancer. Research has shown that fish oils have been linked with reduction on prostate, breast and colon cancer levels. They can also help prevent cachexia whilst receiving chemotherapy. When consuming Oily fish you will be also be getting vitamin D from them, a proven cancer fighting vitamin.

9.Lemon

We know that the Vitamin C found in lemon juice is a widely known alternative cancer treatment in its own right, now we know that the peel too of the lemon can also offer many health benefits such as eradicating toxins in your body. This maybe why lemons are be championed as a potential remedy.

Studies have shown that lemon extract can successfully kill malignant cells in a range of different cancers, such as Colon Cancer, lung Cancer and breast cancer. Other studies also make claims that lemons can destroy cancer in a more 3ffective way than chemotherapy in a safer and healthier manner. The reasoning behind this being that lemon extract therapy only destroys malignant cells, not healthy cells that can be affected with chemotherapy.

Garlic really is a truly wonderful food. It has been shown to stop the spread of cancer in many ways, for example halting blood supply forming for tumours. Garlic also has a number of active ingredients which can help attack cancer cells known as selenium and tryptophan.

11. Srawberries

According to a recent study Strawberries have the potential to prevent oesophageal cancer. The study undertaken by researchers led by Ohio state university showed that freeze-dried strawberries were able to slow down the growth of dysplastic, or precancerous lesions in around 30 people who were consuming the fruit for 6 months.
